Starting at 9 pm on June 7th, this dynamic event is part of the Wilkes-Barre Cavalcade of Jazz. Enjoy electrifying performances by seasoned musicians and impromptu collaborations in an intimate, laid-back setting. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of jazz after dark!
Tickets are $20 at the door or FREE when you show your ticket from the Endea Owens and the Cookout performance.
About South Side Five
Riding the moonlit trails of old Lackawanna, the five horsemen of Dutch Hollow emerge! This outlaw gang, bringing forth all sorts of racket. A ferocious blend of old and new, light and dark, purified and unfiltered, refined and psychedelic. Thunder! Or something like it kicking up in their wake. Hints of days gone by for sure… Django Reinhart, the Sons of the Pioneers, Jimmy Bryant, the great second line traditionalism of the French Quarter. But also something new! Something electric and fierce! Guitars distort in screeching, prehistoric bird song. Drum and bass groove. Thumping… locked in hypnotic, pagan rhythm. And then the reeds! Saxophone and clarinet… low and sweet at first, and then louder…louder…louder. LOUDER STILL!! Bursting finally forth in chaotic, unrestrainable rage.
This is not your grandfather’s western swing band… no… this is the SOUTH SIDE FIVE.
